Snapshots of me @ 21st MINDEF PRIDE Day

Finally, the event is over! We had a tremendous amount of support from fellow singaporeans and many visitors from abroad. The response to the games, stage games, shows were overwhelming! Maybe its because 迷路兵 was performing for whole 3 days or was it because the public love innovation so much?

Well, here are some of the snapshots of me at the event. Note : None of these were pose for camera, all were taken without my knowledge.

  • Day 1 (28th May)

  • Day 2 (29th May)

My Private Moment with Jaylen

Yesterday, after we had our Anniversary luncheon, we went window shopping at Causeway Point. After that, we proceeded to Woodlands regional Library to check out some IT books. Then, on the way back to Causeway Point, Jaylen was getting a bit fussy and constantly calling for his mummy. We were starting to lose ideas on how to pacify/comfort him when i suddenly thought of a moment we shared while in Perth.

While in Perth, it was sometimes very windy (Chilly too) and sometimes the sun is blazing. So, in order to shield Jaylen from the wind or sun, i told him to hug daddy tight-tight. In this manner, he will be protected by my Big and Bulky Body from the wind or sun.

Thus, i tried it on Jaylen again yesterday to try to assure him that daddy is protecting him and calm him down. i said to him "Jaylen, Hold Tight-Tight"

I was very surprised that he actually remembers (Its been almost 3 months since our Perth Trip) and he really held me tight and rest his head on my chest. Mrs Cheong, (Thank goodness), managed to snap a photo of us in the act and when i saw it, i immediately loved it. i think, this is the BEST photo of Jaylen and me. i think, if we entered a photo competition, with the story behind the shot, we might just be the winners!

The photo ... ...

Look at his facial expression and my joy of him remembering what we did in Perth.

I so love this photo! Thanks Mrs Cheong!

6th ROM Wedding Anniversary mini celebration

As usual, any celebration cannot be without food. However, due to the fact that there is Jaylen around, we cannot have luxury of doing what we want and where we want. Thus, we drop by Crystal Jade at Causeway Point. Bit disappointed with the food actually. Let me show you ... ...

 DSC00285

1st Dish - Siew Mai

We ordered this and Har Kau (Prawn Dumpling) but Har Kau sold out. Like what i said before, The top 3 food to distinguish a quality of a Dim Sum Restaurant, 1. Siew Mai, 2. Har Kau, 3. Char Siew Bao. This Siew Mai, is too small in size, bland and not appetising.

DSC00286

2nd Dish - Deep Fried Prawn bean curd skin roll. This is oily, esp when your teeth sink into the crust. Oil oozes out of the thing. i only had a piece as i was watching my diet. Also not appetising.

DSC00288 DSC00289

DSC00291

3rd Dish (Most Disappointed Dish) - Deluxe Conpoy Dumpling

This was the worst dumpling i have ever eaten. More then 75% of the dumpling was the glutinous rice (Look at the photos) and the ingredients? Pathetic! 1 piece of fatty pork, 1 salted egg yolk, 1 small piece of chinese ham and LOTs of glutinous rice! This is what the promotion brochure describe it as... ...

"Premium dumpling includes scallop together with "Jin Hua" ham which turns a simple dumpling to a delicacy, enticing to the sight and palate."

I couldn't believe my eyes when i see the dumpling and read the description! And the dumpling, cost $10.50 ++ !

Even Mrs Cheong, who is picky on food, also claimed this sucks! OMG!

DSC00287

4th Dish - Egg Hor Fun with prawns

Mrs Cheong ordered this on my recommendation and she found this quite ok. To me, it looks good on the eye but i didn't try it so no comments.

DSC00292

5th Dish - Wan Ton Noodles soup

Well, for me, as im on diet, this is one of the healthier choice. the tried and trusted wan ton noodles and it didn't disappoint me. Noodle was crunchy, soup was rich and prawn wan ton was good. To be honest, this wan ton noodles soup is quite good.

Conclusion

The food needs certain areas of improvement, esp for the dumpling. $10.50++ for a dumpling which has nothing much is really too much.

Jaylen's 1st stroll in a shopping mall

Today, we decided to bring jaylen out to nearby bukit panjang plaza for breakfast. Well, the main motive was to let him wear his new shoes and let him walk in a public place. He seems to enjoy however his energy level is limited so he couldn't really walk for long.

Fortunate Restaurant (Xin Fu Yum Cha) 幸福饮茶 (Orchard)

Mrs Cheong and i saw this TV program on Mediacorp TV Channel 8 (我们逛街去! Let’s Go Shopping!) during the week that intro to us this Dim Sum Place. So, with that we decided to try out the place this afternoon.

The food is so-so although i must commend that all food served are piping hot, less the Fried Durian Puff.

The top 3 food to distinguish a quality of a Dim Sum Restaurant, 1. Siew Mai, 2. Har Kau, 3. Char Siew Bao, to be honest, this restaurant is way off target. You need to work harder man.

The 2 things that really PISSES me off is (and i have evidence to show)

1. Charging $4.50 for 3 pot of tea.

We had 1 pot of tea, and subsequent 2 times of hot water re-fill. But, when we got the bill, we were charged 3 x tea @ $1.50 each. Come on, for the 1st pot, ok. but does hot water re-fill cost $1.50 each? Especially when the colour of tea goes lighter and lighter.

2. Charging us 3 towels when there are only 2 of us.

Look at the receipt. Cover : 2. Means only Mr and Mrs Cheong. Look at the receipt. Towel : 3.

What the hell!

Anyway, i didn't want to challenge them as we were rushing to catch the movie, Made of Honour.

Conclusion

This Place is a definite NO for re-visit and i urge/advice everyone not to even waste your money here. There are many other nice places to go for.

Empty calories food

Empty calories food does not mean the food does not have any calories value.

fast-food-burger-high-calories.jpg

Empty calories are calories present in high-energy foods with poor nutritional profiles, typically from processed carbohydrates or fats. An “empty calorie” has the same energy content of any other calorie but it is lack of the accompanying nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, or amino acids as well as fiber.

So, in laymen tern, Empty Calories = High Calories but Low Nutrition

Generally, unnecessary calories are converted in the body to fat. However, if calorie intake is limited for the sake of reducing weight, insufficient vitamin and mineral intake may lead to malnutrition.

Foods often considered to contain mostly empty calories include:

chopstick-bowl-white-rice.jpg

  • White rice
  • Sweets, soft drinks, beverages with a low juice component, and other foods containing sugar
  • Butter, lard, and other highly-saturated fats.
  • High fat foods such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fried chicken, pizza, potato chips, and French fries
  • Candy, pop and other sweetened packaged foods
  • Beer, wine and all other alcoholic beverages

cold-beer.jpg

So, the next time, when people say empty calories food, they do not mean that the food is calorie free.
