Report by Sheena Tan

The Republic of Singapore Navy (RSN) and the Royal Thai Navy (RTN) participated in a combined missile firing on 12 Jan in the Gulf of Thailand, off Sattahip, Thailand.

The missile firing in the Gulf of Thailand was a first for the RSN, where harpoons were successfully fired by the RSN's missile corvette, RSS Victory and the RTN's frigate, HTMS Naresuan.

Witnessed by the RSN's Fleet Commander Rear-Admiral Ng Chee Peng and the RTN's Admiral Soopakorn Booranadiloak, Command-in-Chief of the Royal Thai Fleet, the missile firing provided the opportunity for both navies to enhance interoperability and mutual understanding.

The RSN and RTN participate regularly in joint exercises, underscoring the warm and long-standing defence ties between the Singapore Armed Forces and the Royal Thai Armed Forces.

Pre-Reunion Dinner on Eve of Eve of Chinese New Year at Sizzler, Suntec City

Since i'm back from my trip to Pattaya, i heard Mrs Cheong craving for Sizzler. In fact it was last Sunday where we were window shopping at Jurong Point. And so, i decided to bring her and Jaylen to Sizzler for our Cheong Family Pre-Reunion Dinner on Eve of Eve of Chinese New Year yesterday, just the 3 of us.

Clam Chowder Soup at Sizzler at Suntec City, Singapore

Salad Bar at Sizzler at Suntec City, Singapore

Salad Bar at Sizzler at Suntec City Singapore

Salad Bar selections. There are many kinds of pre-mix salads such as Waldorf Salad, Squid salad, chicken and mango salad, seafood salad, potato salad, white potato salad etc available and also the all time favourites such as mushrooms, egg mayonnaise, ham strips, broccoli, potato skins, pasta with tomato sauce etc.

In fact, above the salad bar counter, there is a signboard that say "The Best Salad Bar in Singapore" (Didn't manage to photo it as no photography is allowed)

Fruits from the salad bar.

The restaurant has been renovated since the last time i was there, together with the food prices. It used to cost $15.99 for the Salad Bar but not it cost $19.99. But then the price hike is justified. There were many varieties of salads available and i had a hard time sampling all of them.

As for the main course, Till the month of May, if you are a VISA card holder, you can order a combo meal at $26.99 and get the second one at 30% discount ($18.89) That's even cheaper then ordering the salad bar so its a real good deal.

Overall, we enjoyed the food there and so did Jaylen!

As we had a really heavy lunch, i didn't feel hungry for dinner. we went to Pattaya City Walk again for the Chang Beer Tower and needed stuff to munch. So i ordered desert pancakes from this stall. i ordered banana, corn, raisin flavours.

The way she did it was exactly the same as our roti prata. but its very very nice, many layers of carnation milk and scoops of sugar on top! Yummy!

This is the end of the What i ate during Pattaya 2009 series.

Watch out for the next series, "What i ate during Kaoshiung 2009" which most likely to be posted in Apr/May 2009!

What i ate during Pattaya 2009 Day 6

We had our Departmental Makan (Translated to : Dinner) at this wonderful and CHEAP Japanese Restaurant at Pattaya Carrefour. Its called

Fuji Japanese Restaurant at Pattaya Carrefour

Fuji Japanese Restaurant

A total of 13 of us were at the dinner. It was a dinner everyone been eagerly looking forward to as our 2 bosses, incoming and outgoing, are treating us!

Coconut drink at Fuji Japanese Restaurant at Pattaya Carrefour

My meal started with this Coconut drink which was highly recommended by my colleagues but i find it so-so.

Miso soup at Fuji Japanese Restaurant at Pattaya Carrefour

No japanese meal is complete without a sip of the Miso Soup

My main dish was too big to fit into a single photo.

Top : Japanese salad, Kimchi (Korean dish in a jap restaurant?), Grilled King Prawn with Asparagus and wild mushrooms and 3 different sauces.

Bottom : Grilled Beef Teppanyaki with Cabbages and Garlic

The Prawn was freash and juicy, the Beef was V Good! Juicy and tender and full of flavour.

Gang at Fuji Japanese Restaurant at Pattaya Carrefour

After a meal that cost Approx 10,000 Baht, Everyone sure looks happy!

And thereafter, to carry on the festivities, we went to Pattaya City Walk and Drank Beer!

Chang Beer Tower at Pattaya City Walk

Chang Beer Tower (3L) @ 340 Baht Each

We drank 4 towers that night. See the huge screen in the background? There was Live Soccer match between Arsenal and Bolton. Usually, they will just play MTV. Its a nice place to hang out, to drink and chat. The most important thing is that the beer there was the cheapest! It would cost 560 Baht for the same tower elsewhere along the Pattaya Beach and even higher in the A-gogo Bar or Clubs.

Gang at Pattaya City Walk

Did i mention that that very night we were there, the temperature was 14 degrees C? It was freezing cold! Look at the sudden extra number of Addidas sweaters (6 in all) bought just to combat the cold breeze. 400 Baht each. For those without sweaters, we were too broke after buying the beers. :(

What i ate during Pattaya 2009 Day 5

Day 5 was the least i ate for the day as Lunch was very late and i felt full till night.

We were held up by some technicalities and by the time we reached Royal Plaza, we were famished.

So the nearest re-fill station was Sizzler and we headed there like we were starved for a week!

Dish at Sizzler at Pattaya Royal Garden Plaza 1

From the Salad Bar,

Clam Chowder Soup, Broccoli salad and chips, coleslaw, mixed seafood salad, potato salad and quail eggs

Dish at Sizzler at Pattaya Royal Garden Plaza 2

Main Course was Sausage Platter with mixed vegetables @ 300 Baht inclusive of Salad Bar

Dish at Sizzler at Pattaya Royal Garden Plaza 3

Dessert was strawberry and chocolate mousse. The strawberry was so-so but the chocolate one was very nice.

As for fruits, pineapple, watermelon, dragon fruit and tangerine. All sweet local Thai fruits!

Although there wasn't any dinner for me, we had a couple of jugs of ice blended liquor at a place next to TONY Beer Garden.

190 Baht each and it was certainly a new experience.

Drink at Tony Beer Garden Pattaya 1

Mango Flavour (i think!)

Drink at Tony Beer Garden Pattaya 2

Apple Flavour (im sure!)

Gang Drink at Tony Beer Garden Pattaya

Drink to Good Health! The kick to this comes not from the liquor but during the bottoms up. You can feel the ice flowing down into your stomach. There was no brain freeze, but Stomach Freeze!

What i ate during Pattaya 2009 Day 4

Day 4 was light as compared to the previous night.

For Lunch,

Beef Kway Teow Soup at Pattaya

Beef Kway Teow Soup

Tom Yum Goong at Pattaya

Tom Yum Goong

Nothing Special but i sort of suspect that either the Beef Kway Teow Soup or the Tom Yum Goong has steroids in them because in the next 1 hour or so ...

The Avenue Pattaya Bowling score

... I achieved my highest ever score in a bowling game with 171 points (A 4-Bagger in the process) Haha

As for Dinner, we had a meal of local Thai home cooked food located just 5 minutes away from Pattaya Walking Street

That's the Stall

Home Cook Food at Pattaya Walking Street 4

Omelette

Stir Fried Mixed Vegetables

Sweet, sour and chilli Fish (It's very nice!)

For the whole meal, with 2 bottles of water, 380 Baht. Quite cheap considering the fish was already 200 Baht by itself and Mr Leow and me had a tough time finishing it up!
