Marina Barrage and Melting Pot Cafe @ Holiday Inn Atrium

Today i applied leave to bring Jaylen out to Marina Barrage. This trip was long overdue as i was always being recalled back to work whenever i applied leave. And after the recent trip to Pattaya and exertions during the R1, i hardly had time to accompany Jaylen. So, the earliest available opportunity after the grueling R1, i took a day's rest to spend time with my family.

Marking Attendance

For Dinner, we went to the Holiday Inn Atrium Melting Pot Cafe for buffet dinner. Till 31st Mar, there is a 1 for 1 offer for MINDEF/SAF personnel. Weekday Dinner $30.50++, Fri - Sun $35++. Consider a good deal as i paid $35++ for 3 of us. If there was no 1 for 1, i don't think its worth it as the variety not attractive although there were some stuff i didn't try such as teochew porridge, Pasta, Popiah, Kueh Pie Tee, Rojak and Waffles.

Valentine's Day Dinner @ Penang Place Restaurant

This Valentine's Day, to make it a more uncommon to what everyone else is doing with just 2 people, i decided to rope in my in-laws too. Who say old people cannot have valentine day celebration? For us, we had our little jaylen with us. The venue was at Penang Place Restaurant. This is a small little restaurant located at IBP (International Business Park) just opposite The Chevrons. The food was wonderful and the ingredients fresh and plentiful. All the different authentic Penang local fare to savour. For $23.80++, it was a steal. Maybe for our next Department Makan, i will recommend this place.

I started with a DIY 'Cuttlefish with KangKong'. As you can see, the cuttlefish portions were huge and the kangkong fresh. This is 1 of 4 DIY stations which you can eat from.

100_5288

2nd dish : Stir Fried Broccoli with mushrooms, Century Eggs, Steam Fish Cake, Fried Fish Cake, Beef Rendang, Fried Chicken Wing. Why i loved this place was that it has some of my favourite food which i am very picky about. e.g. Beef Rendang, Chicken Curry (Coming up) etc. This place has quite a good Beef Rendang and i believe if you eat it with their Pandan Coconut Rice (I try not to take rice so i didn't try) it will be perfect!

100_5287

Curry Chicken thats creamy, thick and very delicious. Taste like what your mum will serve at home. Authentic taste unlike those you find at Foodcourts or Chap Chye Rice stalls.

100_5289

Penang Place Restaurant Famous Char Kway Teow. And its really nice, To be Honest! The taste is unforgettable and its flavourful although there wasn't any pork or lard in it. Look at the prawns. So generous servings. One of the best Char Kway Teow i ever had and im not even a huge fan of it. I read from the newspaper clippings that it was voted the best in Business Times.

Huge Mussels and prawns in 'Chilli Crab Sauce' together with Broccoli and Fried Chicken Wing

100_5291

Herbal Duck Soup. 2nd of 4 DIY station.

100_5297

Penang Laksa. 3rd of 4 DIY station. Not what i expected as i ate before in Penang that's more spicy and sour then this. This version suits me as im not a guy for sour food but the condiments need some improvement. Also, for someone who doesn't eat it often, we wont know how to blend the condiments to make a perfect bowl of this famous laksa.

100_5296

Hokkien Noodle Soup. This, to me was not only the best of the DIY station, but the BEST of the lot in the buffet. It's been a long time i had prawn noodle soup that thick and flavourful. The broth, i believe, took many hours to boil. The thickness of it reminds me of the Jack's Place Lobster Bisque. But this was much much better. Try it to believe!

100_5301

Bur Bur Cha Cha. Too Bad it was the warm version and not the cold version i fancy.

At first it was suppose to be in late afternoon cos he got to go Bai Nian but he sms at abt 11am and asked if im interested in going for a Buffet @ 50% discount! Wow! Without any delays, we were on the way there in a jiffy. The buffet usually cost $50+++ per pax and $79+++ per pax with free flow champagne. Mini Tech Makan, Gamble and Drinking Session CNY Day 2

The start of the new year and i initiated this makan session for my department. Actually, the intention to build bonds among us and be a cohesive unit. However, i didn't make this known to them. To them, its just another binge eating session. Whatever name we call it, as long as it meet the objective, its a good initiative.

The makan was organised by Charles K. and it was decided to be held at Sakura Japanese Restaurant at Omni Theatre rather then Seoul Garden Ngee Ann City. Suppose to be 8 people but last minute Keith, Jason and Ben Li decided to put us airplane!
