This Valentine's Day, to make it a more uncommon to what everyone else is doing with just 2 people, i decided to rope in my in-laws too. Who say old people cannot have valentine day celebration? For us, we had our little jaylen with us. The venue was at Penang Place Restaurant. This is a small little restaurant located at IBP (International Business Park) just opposite The Chevrons. The food was wonderful and the ingredients fresh and plentiful. All the different authentic Penang local fare to savour. For $23.80++, it was a steal. Maybe for our next Department Makan, i will recommend this place.
Hidden somewhere in the West
I started with a DIY 'Cuttlefish with KangKong'. As you can see, the cuttlefish portions were huge and the kangkong fresh. This is 1 of 4 DIY stations which you can eat from.
2nd dish : Stir Fried Broccoli with mushrooms, Century Eggs, Steam Fish Cake, Fried Fish Cake, Beef Rendang, Fried Chicken Wing. Why i loved this place was that it has some of my favourite food which i am very picky about. e.g. Beef Rendang, Chicken Curry (Coming up) etc. This place has quite a good Beef Rendang and i believe if you eat it with their Pandan Coconut Rice (I try not to take rice so i didn't try) it will be perfect!
Curry Chicken thats creamy, thick and very delicious. Taste like what your mum will serve at home. Authentic taste unlike those you find at Foodcourts or Chap Chye Rice stalls.
Penang Place Restaurant Famous Char Kway Teow. And its really nice, To be Honest! The taste is unforgettable and its flavourful although there wasn't any pork or lard in it. Look at the prawns. So generous servings. One of the best Char Kway Teow i ever had and im not even a huge fan of it. I read from the newspaper clippings that it was voted the best in Business Times.
Huge Mussels and prawns in 'Chilli Crab Sauce' together with Broccoli and Fried Chicken Wing
Herbal Duck Soup. 2nd of 4 DIY station.
Penang Laksa. 3rd of 4 DIY station. Not what i expected as i ate before in Penang that's more spicy and sour then this. This version suits me as im not a guy for sour food but the condiments need some improvement. Also, for someone who doesn't eat it often, we wont know how to blend the condiments to make a perfect bowl of this famous laksa.
Hokkien Noodle Soup. This, to me was not only the best of the DIY station, but the BEST of the lot in the buffet. It's been a long time i had prawn noodle soup that thick and flavourful. The broth, i believe, took many hours to boil. The thickness of it reminds me of the Jack's Place Lobster Bisque. But this was much much better. Try it to believe!
Bur Bur Cha Cha. Too Bad it was the warm version and not the cold version i fancy.
Various kuey (Why is the siew mai doing at the Dessert corner?)
Papa, the Food taste so Good! When can we come again?
